Can You Be Fully Authentic in Public?

This is something I’m pondering.

If you define authenticity as “being the person you are when nobody is watching”, can you ever be yourself fully in public?

People are tribal beings. They want to fit in.

We live with societal expectations and norms, so society wants us to behave in certain ways.

So the minute you are trying to fit in, you’re not authentic anymore.

Being the person you are when nobody is watching, means that you’re living according to your values. To your beliefs. You do the things you care about and conversely don’t do the stuff you don’t.

It’s close to impossible to do in public. We all have opinions and preferences that would make us not fit in and therefore it’s dangerous to be a 100% you.

Build a personal brand that really suits you.
